Any well-dressed man will tell you that sunglasses are a must. Not only can they top off your outfit with a little extra panache, but there are health benefits as well. The sun’s UV rays can wreak some serious damage on your eyes, in particular the cornea and the eye’s surface tissue. It’s not often that you can use our own well-being as a legitimate excuse to do a little shopping, so I say seize the opportunity and invest in a good pair of new shades.

Brands like Ray-Ban and Persol have become synonymous with quality eye-wear, and for good reason. Their classic frames and careful construction ensure that each pair of sunglasses they produce is built to last for years provided they’re treated with care. But beyond those big, omnipresent eye-wear mega brands, there are quite a few lesser-known makers of sunglasses who promise the same quality and protection, plus a little bit of indie street cred.

So explore these eye-wear brands, some small enough that you’ll need to hunt for them, others that have already amassed a devoted following. Just do us all a favor and promise that no matter how much you love them, you’ll avoid pulling a Corey Hart; sunglasses should be purely daytime-only.

1.  Han Kjobenhavn
Today, Danish brand Han Kjobenhavn has two brick and mortar shops, a full clothing line and a cult following among some of the most in-the-know figures in men's fashion. But, they started in 2008 as an eyewear brand, and their sunglasses are still some of the best on the market today.

2.  Ahlem
Based in Los Angeles via Paris, designer Ahlem Manai-Platt takes inspiration from both cities for her eponymous eyewear collection. Ahlem sunglasses are all made by hand, with a timeless design that takes into consideration subtle improvements on classic styles.

3.  Warby Parker
Warby Parker's business model has become something of a new industry standard: for every pair of frames purchased, another is donated to someone in need. And if that wasn't enough, their sunglasses start at only $95 and are still made from some of the finest materials available.

4.  Illesteva
Name a celebrity noted for their style, and they're likely to have been spotted rocking a pair of Illesteva shades. And it doesn't even matter what exactly that style is: the wide range of shapes and styles available has appealed to everyone from Daniel Craig to Elton John.

5.  Sun Buddies
With a name like Sun Buddies, what's not to love? These sunglasses, from the minds behind the Swedish taste-making boutique Tres Bien Shop, are hand-made and have been co-signed by some of the most trusted names in fashion-forward retail, like Opening Ceremony, Dover Street Market and Need Supply.

6.  Kaibosh
Kaibosh is based in Norway, and their Scandinavian design sensibility shines through in their sunglasses, meaning their frames are minimalist, sleek and style-conscious but still accessible. They're also completely unique, with innovations like temples that flip over to reveal a second color on the other side, essentially giving you two pairs of shades for the price of one.

7.  Sunpocket
If you're always on the go, or find that your sunglasses get damaged when you tuck them into your jacket or bag, then look no further than Sunpocket. Each pair folds down for quick and easy storage that protects the frames from getting bent out of shape and takes up very little space in your pocket. Originally launched in the late 1970's, Sunpocket was rebooted in 2011 with more modern colors and shapes.

8.  Aframes
Another brand with a philanthropic heart, Aframes donates portions of each sale to support funding for Vitamin A supplementation in developing nations. It's an appropriate connection, since Vitamin A deficiency can lead to blindness. The sunglasses themselves are the kind of classic styes that complement any look.

9.  Local Supply
In their own words, Australian brand Local Supply believes that "expensive sunglasses are always the first casualty after a big adventure." Therefore, the founders set out to create everyday eyewear that is functional, stylish, durable and won't cost you a small fortune.

A man who knows how to wear color well can really turn some heads. According to Kim Johnson Gross, co-founder of Chic Simple Ltd, men shouldn't be afraid of color but should embrace it. They should experiment even if it's just with shirt colors. Kim and I discussed this topic and we came up with several tips men need to know about wearing color.

Especially wear color in summer
Summer is such a festive time of year. Light and bright colors are de-rigeur. So I advise you to choose a color that is your signature color for the season and one that enhances your natural skin and hair tone.

Stay away from beige colored shirts
Beige is a bad color for shirts or any article that is around the face. It is rarely a good color for someone. I don't know why designers continue to push this color on us. Just don't succumb to the pressure.

French blue is always a good choice
French blue, which is a rich medium blue, is a flattering color for most skin tones. It makes a great dress shirt, which is mainly where you will find this sumptuous hue.

Stay away from bright, solid-colored socks
Colorful socks are okay if they have a design like stripes or argyle. But bright, solid-colored socks are simply not a good idea. Donny Osmond is suddenly coming to mind.

Keep color around the face
Again, it is important to keep flattering colors that enhance skin and eye color around the face. You don't want to look like you just got out of the hospital, do you?

Stay away from loud patterns
They are distracting and ultimately not a good thing. If it was ever in, it was the eighties, but we've thankfully moved on.

Take a look around you
If you are baffled about how to incorporate more color into your wardrobe, take a look around you. Look at ads and store displays. For example, Ralph Lauren really uses a lot of color in his collections. He styles his clothes well-gives classics a twist by using color. Also, Brooks Brothers has more recently had great options with color. If you are traveling abroad, see how the locals use color. Italians are probably the best at wearing color--you would be hard pressed to see people there wearing dark, drab colors.

Low back pain doesn’t have to be crippling. Many patients who suffer from low back pain are often referred to physical therapy for an initial nonsurgical treatment option before considering other more aggressive treatments. The goals of physical therapy in regards to lower back pain are to decrease back pain, increase function and teach the patient a maintenance program to prevent future back problems.

How Exercise Will Help Lower Back Pain

Most lower back pain is caused by lack of support from the core muscles. Core muscles are made up of abdominal and lower back muscles that all support the spine. By strengthening these muscles, a patient experiencing back pain should be able to develop a belt of muscles supporting their spine.  Most exercise programs created in physical therapy will incorporate some of the following forms of exercise to help strengthen the lower back and core muscles:

1. Stretching.
Proper stretching of the muscles along with active exercise will help maintain or rebuild normal range of motion. Low back pain patients should focus on stretching the lower back muscles, abdominal muscles, hips and legs slowly and gradually in static motions.

2. Core strengthening exercises.
These are specific exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles and low back muscles (erector spinae) to provide the aforementioned ‘belt of muscle’ around the spine. These exercises typically include:

  • Sit-ups, crunches, abdominal machines, and leg raises done properly are great core strengtheners.
  • Low back exercises (hyperextensions), which can be performed on machines or by simply lying on the stomach and slowly raising the chest off the ground.
  • ‘Good-mornings’ are also an exercise to strengthen the lower back muscles. This exercise requires standing with legs straight and shoulder width apart, with a broom-stick or weighted bar across the shoulders. The patient then slowly bends forward until the face is parallel to the floor and then raises back up. Very similar to just bending to touch the toes except there is weight across the shoulders

3. Dynamic stabilization exercises.
Many dynamic exercises may include the use of stability balls, balance exercises, or more specific stabilizing exercises. These types of exercises will strengthen the secondary muscles of the spine and support it through various ranges of motion.

4. Aquatic Therapy.
Water supports the body and is low impact minimizing the effects of gravity and easing the pressure on sore muscles and joints. Aquatic therapy can be very helpful for elderly patients and disabled patients who may not have the strength to do some of the exercises outside the aquatic pool.

Chronic low back pain is a common problem and can affect your work, family and recreational activities. While there is no specific cure for low back pain, there are some steps you can take now to start managing the symptoms coming from your back.

1. Stop Slouching.
One of the most common causes of low back pain is poor sitting posture. The strain on the back while sitting in a slouched position can cause excessive pressure on the joints, muscles and discs, causing pain. Learn to sit with correct posture and maintain that posture at all times to help decrease or eliminate your low back pain. Also be sure your workspace is set up properly at home and at work.

2. Stop avoiding exercise.
It may hurt to get started, but exercise is proven to be beneficial for most low back pain. It helps keep your core muscles strong, provides increased circulation to your joints and discs, and it gives you a sense of well-being. Plus, being a couch potato can really put your low back in a poor posture (see above).

3. Stop searching for a miracle cure.
We’ve all seen the advertisements that promise a miracle cure for your low back pain. Hanging by your feet on an inversion table, rubbing healing balms on your back or spending money on fancy computerized traction devices all sound effective, but the evidence indicates that many of these miracle cures are not beneficial.

4. Stop focusing on a specific diagnosis.
Up to 85% of low back pain can be classified as "non-specific." This means that the origin of your pain cannot be localized to one specific structure or problem. While common diagnostic tests for low back pain can show the bones, discs and joints with great detail, no test can tell the exact cause of your pain with 100% accuracy.

5. Stop lifting heavy things.
One of the top causes of low back pain is frequent heavy lifting. If your job requires that you lift heavy items, ask your employer if special equipment (or an extra set of hands) is available to help ease the load on your lower back.

6. Stop repetitive bending.
Another common cause of low back pain is frequent forward bending. Bending forward a lot can cause increased pressure on the discs in the back and can lead to muscle aches and pains. Limit your forward bending, and be sure to perform low back exercises that focus on backward bending to help offset the repetitive forward bending.

7. Stop listening to other people’s horror stories.
You know the scenario: You are bent over in obvious pain, waiting to see the doctor, and the person next to you tells you a 10-minute tale of how their Uncle Gordon had low back pain that required injections and surgery. But the pain still didn't go away. Stop listening to these terrible stories. Most low back pain is short lived and can be managed quite effectively with exercise and postural correction. Of course, some low back conditions are serious and require surgery, but that is a conversation you should have with your doctor, not the guy in the waiting room.

8. Stop trying passive treatments.
Passive treatments like heat, ice or ultrasound may feel good, but their effect is usually only temporary. Most research indicates that active self-care exercise and postural correction is an effective remedy for low back pain. A visit to your physical therapist can help determine which exercises are best for your specific condition.

9. Stop smoking.
If you smoke, you have probably heard of the negative effects that it can have on your health. Some studies indicate that smoking can also increase your chance of having low back pain. Talk to you doctor today to come up with a plan to quit smoking to help your low back pain.

10. Stop waiting for your pain to go away.
If you have had pain for more than a week or two, see your doctor or physical therapist. (Many states allow direct access to physical therapy.) While it is noble to try to manage the pain yourself, the earlier you start treatment, the better your chances are of making a smooth recovery and quickly returning to normal function.

The last few seasons haven't been short on glitz (yes, glitter-encrusted Saint Laurent booties, we're thinking of you), but instead of sparkling watch faces or diamond tennis bracelets, our magpie fix has has been largely satisfied by embellishment on our clothes, not our bodies - be that coat lapels, dazzling heels (or sandals), sweaters and jeans.

That's all about to change come springtime, however, as a heavy frosting of diamond, crystal or very good costume jewellery is set to make a serious comeback. While we've been dazzled by the recent array of red-carpet jewels on show, this trend is about wearing ornate, heirloom pieces with straightforward, casual outfits. We've moved on from minimalism and become a little bored of normcore: daytime jewels offer us a much needed dose of extravagance to add to our workaday outfits, be that a suede jacket or a humble knit.

And while we're still fighting the cold with one warming layer after another, isn't it nice to have a glittering pick-me-up alongside our snuggliest pieces? The ubiquitous grey cashmere poloneck or shaggy jumper dress you probably haven't taken off in weeks are the ideal canvas for a bit of daytime bling. Take inspiration from the fashion editors: bored with last year's punkish ear cuffs they are now mismatching Prada's spring/summer 2015 crystal necklace with a well-worn grey tee and Junya Wantanabe's patchwork jeans.

For instant haute-casual glamour, it's hard to beat CĂ©line's shoulder-grazing chandelier earrings as your instant wardrobe update to wear with anything. Daytime sparkle is 2015's version of wearing spiky stilettos with boyfriend jeans - easy chic that involves very little effort elsewhere in your outfit, which is perfect for any time-crushed working woman.

One rule: a little goes a long way. The aim is to look fresh and resolutely glamorous, not as though you're still wearing a cocktail ensemble from the night before. When it comes to beauty, your pin-up is a squeaky clean Kate Moss in Craig McDean's 1997 Vogue shoot, her sparkling earrings swaying.

It wasn't exactly a love letter—Karl Lagerfeld is much too savvy for sentiment—but the Chanel collection he showed today was, he conceded, "a vision of France from a stranger who thinks France is not that bad." He's grown increasingly tired of the drip-drip-drip of cynical negativity, much of it from the French themselves. So you could almost construe Lagerfeld's last three ready-to-wear collections for Chanel as an uncynical celebration of French banality: thesupermarchĂ©, the manifestation (does a single day pass without a demonstration?), and now, the brasserie.

The Brasserie Gabrielle, to be exact. The Grand Palais, the grandest exhibition space in le tout Paris, was turned into the kind of all-day, leather-banquette-ed winer-and-diner you can find on almost any street corner in Paris. Caveat: The space was simply too vast to communicate the errant charm of a real brasserie, even those as big as La Coupole, Balzar, and Bofinger, all places that Lagerfeld used to frequent when brasseries were crucibles of culture. (That was long before it became impossible for him to eat out, because of a selfie-crazed public that wouldn't wait till he'd swallowed his food before they invaded his space.) So this was actually one occasion when the usual, fabulously grandiose concept for a Chanel show stumbled.

But the original idea came from a place of love, so the stumble was easily overlooked. Especially because the collection itself was the strongest RTW showing from Chanel in a while. It had a sturdy base. The whole show was staged on a single style of shoe, a toe-capped, mid-heeled slingback—ringard in local parlance, because it is so bourgeois, but Lagerfeld loved the poise, the confidence, the ease of walking it gave his models. And that degree of comfort with bourgeois dress codes stabilized a collection that spiraled in a dozen directions. There were at least 97 looks—that's a huge playground—but there was enough tweed to restore Chanel to its core.

Imagine the press of humanity in a crowded Parisian brasserie, circa the era when Lagerfeld would have been patronizing such joints. There was that kind of diversity here. A look as straightforward as a tweed coat over a houndstooth skirt nailed an everyday fashion need. There were also solid blanket checks, named "the Donald" after the earnest Scotsman who wove them. Such folksy detail doesn't really seem like a Lagerfeld thing, but that's because the world doesn't know everything about him.

Although one thing it knows is his curiosity about the future…a Gattaca-styled projection, not freakazoid cybernetic but a subtle shift on the now. And that was delivered in this collection with an effect that looked like polyhedron scales. They will be the head-scratcher in this collection. What they actually were was a multitude of bows, a strange testament to Lagerfeld's pursuit of an idea regardless of whether it is conventionally aesthetically pleasing or not.

The brasserie scenario subtly leaked into appealing details, like a handbag that looked like piles of ceramic plates, a scarf-hemmed skirt on Jamie Bochert that looked like piles of fine linen napkins…. That's how Lagerfeld textures his inspirations. And it's going to be a revelation to see how the French media responds to them.
